Tabernas is a busy and vibrant country town that even boasts a small theatre. In an excellent location for the major road networks connecting Almeria to Granada, Murcia and the Levante Elmeriense Costas. The local area has long been known in the film industry, principally for the desert-like landscape and unusual rock formations.
Many of the Spaghetti Westerns were filmed in this area which has attracted many film producers over the years. Mini Hollywood, now known as the Oasys is nearby where you can for a Wild West experience with saloons and staged gunfights just part of the attraction. There is a zoo and a photograph opportunity to dress in western style outfits. There is an underground cave system of spectacular beauty, which is open to visitors in nearby Sorbas, with world renown among geologists for 'one of a kind' formations
The town is just a short drive from the National Park of the Cabo de Gato with its acres of unspoilt countryside and small fishing villages. Mojácar is approximately 40 minutes drive away with its 14 kilometres of unspoilt beaches and the historic White Village of Mojácar perched on the hillside.
